Since the subject is dresses for the week, thought I'd share a pic of a very whimsical dress.
It was my mom's prom dress from 1960/61. She wore it to either her Jr. or Sr. prom. She said if it was her Jr. prom, she went with a bunch of girlfriends. I thought, "that would be so much fun to just go with girls and be silly and laugh and dance without worrying about what the guy thinks.
And if this dress was her Sr. prom dress, she went with a basketball guy, Glen. She also painted the backdrops for the prom theme, "Under the Sea." Painting and fluffy pink dresses... they're in our DNA.
Fast forward from 1960 to the 70's and 80's and this dress made it's way into my dress up dream world. My little friends and I lovvveed wearing my mom's prom dresses which she kindly let us use over and over again. The dresses were torn and ripped from our 8 year old shoes getting stuck in the tulle. But every time we put these dresses on, we felt like fairy princesses. There were even chiffon shawls that matched the color of the dress.
The more I look at this dress, the more I love it. It has so much meaning to me with it being my mom's dress from her high school prom and also a beloved princess dress. It inspires and will most likely be painted onto canvas in a few days!
Happy Groundhog Day!
