My pink pocket with a little poem/Psalm inside for the special day....
Sam's little pocket....perfect for a wee note.. a poem of birthday love.
Poems and pockets? Do you love them? If you do, you'll love this: ( I found out about it from Ann Voscamp...she wrote a beautiful entry on her blog about saints and poets and then said this:
"The poets have invited us to, with this month of April christened National Poetry Month. They call us to carry a poem a day around in the pocket, sharing it, thinking on it, letting it rub off and penetrate skin and soul. " What a great and wonderful idea all mixed together. Carrying around a poem or even a Psalm in your pocket. Today, I have written down several Psalms that are near to my heart and I do want them to rub off and penetrate skin and soul. The day to carry a poem around is this week.. April 17th!
The sweet part of the "carry a poem a day around in the pocket" is that the day, April 17, is Sam's birthday!.... so I have a special little verse I picked out for him this morning and am carrying it around in my pocket.... thinking about this prayer for him... making it his birthday prayer. Makes my heart so happy! Poems, prayers, Psalms and pockets.. love it! Also, the "poetry people" have encouraged everyone to make copies of your favorite poems and verses and hand them out to friends on the "carry a poem in your pocket day."... so now, I am thinking through what poem to give others. Maybe a Psalm and a special spring time poem!
Here is one I love... loved it enough to make it into a painting! The words are etched into the paint..kind of hard to see in the pic so the words are below:
You love the roses - so do I. I wish
The sky would rain down roses, as they rain
From off the shaken bush. Why will it not?
Then all the valley would be pink and white
And soft to tread on. They would fall as light
As feathers, smelling sweet; and it would be
Like sleeping and like waking, all at once!
Isn't that beautiful??? Can only imagine what it would be like if it really rained down roses. I remember Captain Kangaroo (I think it was his show) and it rained down golf balls. How I loved that show!
This painting is an "oldie".. one of the first ones I painted a few years ago. I think the girl should look a little more happy because she has roses falling all around her! She should have a huge smile or be laughing or throwing her hands up in the air.. what was I thinking??
Another "oldie" painting, but makes me smile to see red, pink and turquoise blue.. some favorite color combinations.
It's exciting having a poem and Psalm to carry in my pocket; knowing that many people will be doing the same thing this week.. especially this Thursday!)...yipee! And I'll think about fluffy pink and white roses falling from the sky and my little one turning 6 this week.
